My order of 2 Husk Bagpipe Chanter reeds arrived today! My friend and long-time bagpipe supplier, Gerry Rooney from Pipeline Bagpipes, sent them over. I’ve been playing bagpipes for years and have had great luck with Shepherd reeds in different chanters. But I heard they’re not available anymore. Gerry recommended Husk Reeds as a superb alternative, and I’m so glad I tried them! They’re amazing! When I opened the package and looked at the reeds, they appeared to be very well crafted. I then put one in my MacLellan Blackwood Mac 1 chanter, and it was incredible! The reed had a bright, clear vibrant tone and was super stable. The grips, Birls, and other embellishments were a delight to my ears. I asked for easy/mediums, and Pipeline Bagpipes came through spot on again. My drones were already calibrated for the Shepherd reed I had been using, and the calibration stayed the same for the Husk reeds. Even the drone tuning pin positions were exactly the same. Pipeline Bagpipes has always been a great place to shop. If you see something on their website, they have it in stock, and the prices are always very competitive.. They also ship quickly. I want to give a big shoutout to Shawn Husk for making such a great bagpipe chanter reed. I’m a huge fan and won’t be looking anywhere else.
